Had a great time sailing, but after the first 28 hours found myself queasie. I ended up sleeping outside under the stars for both nights as being down below in the galley for more than a nano-second had my eyes rolling in my head.
We started out with literal smooth sailing, sunny skies and star filled nights. As the days drew on, the ocean got rougher.
While I never actually got sick (a point of pride for me), I was essentially useless on the boat. The men did all the sailing. While I jokingly referred to myself as "carcass," the guys lovingly said I was good "ballast". See my prone position in the next photo. I'm there at the bottom. I assumed that position pretty much the whole time.
Overall, the trip was great! I saw more sun rises and sunsets in those 3 days than I have in 3 years. We were joined by pods of dolphins and the occasional sea turtle. Each arrival took my mind off my ills long enough to take photos and ooh and ah like a novice whale watcher.
I brought 4 changes of clothes and never changed clothes once. I did put on a rain suit since I was sleeping outside, but that doesn't really count as a change.
The Fort Lauderdale port was a welcome site, but more so was the shower at the pier.
I was exhausted and it took me close to 2 days after leaving the boat to quit losing my balance, but I had a great time. I'd do it all again in a heartbeat, but with this one lesson: bring the damn dramemine.
